What I Do I'm a product owner that liaisons between Business and IT. I try to find opportunities for automation and streamlining the network engineer's everyday workflow
Why Engineering? Engineering allows you a wide field of creativity. It's always about finding a solution...since there are many ways to find a solution to a problem, it's the most flexible field of all the creative industries!
School Days I attended George Mason University, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelors in Information Systems and Operations Management and a concentration in Big Data and Data Warehousing
My Day At Work Many many meetings! Thinking strategically about how to lead a team of 33 people best to our end goal. It's a little bit of people management but mostly planning. I need to look ahead almost a year and predict the work that the business will need and plan to get that work done.
Best Part I love the interactions. One person cannot arrive at a fully formed solution alone, so collaboration and perspectives are important. I feel we truly get the best work done when we pause and allow those opinions and perspectives to have space in our world- then we make the best decision based off the information received
Proud Moments Within 2.5 years, I presented a new proposal and shift for our current work structure to the CTO of Verizon. It included plans of giving agency back to the engineers who knew the work best and streamlining the process
Challenges Careerwise- I've been put into a position which requires alot of tenure within the company. When you're with an industry for 10+ years it's incredible the things that you learn! So..naturally when you earn a position that's meant for someone that's had tenure with the company, it's a learning curve. You need to be able to be as nimble and as willing to learn as possible. Sometimes I run into situations, where my experience clearly is behind my instinct and talent. I may THINK of a solution, but I cannot determine nuances because I lack the experience. But it's another reason to keep try and keep learning!
My Family I'm a single child and first generation Asian Indian woman. My parents immigrated to America in 1992. Growing up, I learned 2 cultures, 2 languages, and many more things! My father is a Systems Engineer who had to restart his education in America as the education standards were very different for immigrants. Now he has a total of 8 degrees! (4 bachelors and 4 masters) My mother is a Project Manager who faced similar challenges as my father- She's earned a total of 4 degrees! It's been the three of us learning from each other in a new part of the world. My parents are every reason for my success and dedication, as they have modelled grit, perseverance, grace, and humility. I try to practice their teachings as much as possible in my own career
Dreams and Goals My short term goal within Verizon is to move into a people leading heavy role. I think it's a new challenge and I believe that the management principles that drive a company can be rejuvenated from time to time. Its easy for many teams to fall into a rhythm and slowly become stagnant. I believe with my new perspectives and youth, I can breathe a little life and bring some excitement back into teams with individuals who possess beyond amazing capabilities. My long term goal is to really dig into management and make impactful decisions on a business level. I think that Verizon is on the forefront of innovation, and being someone who pursues solutions and creativity, I think that my instinct and drive are exactly what I can offer to push the limits of our company.
Inspiration My parents are my greatest inspiration. Growing up as an Asian Indian, there weren't many role models for me to look up to. So instead I turned to my parents. They came to America with very little money at all to survive, and they worked hard to build an entirely new career for themselves within the country and had to face alot of struggles as well because they were People of Color.
Want to be an Engineer? There are alot of challenges and frustrations that will test you and your self-esteem. Know that there is power to being a woman in a male-centric world, and that power gives you empathy, understanding and perspective that will slowly influence the world around you. You don't need to be anything more or less than you, because THAT'S why you're even here! Shine your own light unapologetically and let others follow you
Hobbies I'm a costume designer! I love to sew and play video games as well. I work with different kinds of mediums and own my own side business. I love promoting body positivity and crafting on my off time. I also play video games and stream on twitch. It's alot of fun to share the joy with people and make their days better.
