How should I go about becoming an engineer later in life?

I'm 28 and started my career as a teacher. Since I started college I always had the thought at the back of my mind I'd rather become an engineer and haven't been able to silence the thought. Now that I'm 5 years into my teaching career I'm ready to make the change and become an engineer. I've looked at transferring to a couple different schools and am now trying to determine if I should be seeking an ABET accredited program that leads to a PE or if it would be better to start in a non-accredited bachelors degree program and get a masters degree right after. What advice do you have for someone looking to start this path later in life?
