  • What I Do

As a system performance engineer, I monitor our telecommunication network performance, integrate new nodes to enlarge the coverage to serve more customers, discover issues, create reports, and work with vendors to find resolutions.

  • Why Engineering?

I am a logical person and pay attention to details.  This helps me to find problems that can be easily ignored.  I also have to be creative and approach issues from different angles. As an engineer I have the opportunity to use my skills and strengths to make the world a better place.

  • School Days

MSEE: Tennessee Tech University, TN. (1997)
BSCS: Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, CHN. (1989)

  • My Day At Work

. Monitor network performance including 911 calls
    . Create performance reports
. Communicate with different groups across Verizon and vendors for issues and resolution
    . Integrate cell sites
. Meetings and trainings for technology advancement

  • Best Part

. Built temporary small portable cell site to support South Florida Fairground event - went there two times to test signal coverage there and had fun at the event!
. Provided monitoring support at Miami Super Bowl (2020) and Tampa Super Bowl (2021).
. Had fun at team built events: Strikes at Boca and Topgolf in south FL.

  • Proud Moments

. Received Motorola Bravo awards for exceptional customer configuration test in achieving customer commitments with high quality.
. Proudly a part of the Florida team which carried the most LTE/VoLTE FOA at Verizon.
. Being selected in monitoring Verizon network performance for Miami and Tampa Super Bowl in 2020 and 2021.

  • Challenges

. I worked more than 5 years after graduation from a college in China.  I had to pick up book again to prepare GRE for my master degree program at US. I went to nearby university to study English during the days and worked at nights.
. My first job at US is working at Motorola.  I used lunch hour to practice spoken English at the toastmasters meeting.

  • My Family

My husband and I met in college in TN and we have 3 daughters. The oldest daughter is a double major (business administration and data science) senior at Berkeley with full tennis scholarship. The second daughter learned guitar and bass by herself and has fun at a local band. The third daughter is a straight A student since preschool and is now at FAU High where high school and college study are combined.  She takes care of 2 beautiful birds.  We have pet chickens living in a beautiful 2 story coop with windows and we live in just one story house.  Our neighborhood has 2 Indian blue peacocks. I pretend they are mine when they show up at my front yard:-)

  • Dreams and Goals

Short term: take training in leadership, enhance skills, and do more volunteer work.
Long term: make smarter decisions, find more efficient processes, promote better practices across many groups, and show more confidence and be more adaptable to change.

  • Inspiration

My college roommate Vivian encouraged me to study in US when I was in the 20s.  This changed my life path.  Also many others encouraged me to advance.  Thanks for all!

  • Want to be an Engineer?
