Close Up
  • What I Do

I am an assistant professor of bioengineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas. My work entails leading a research lab and teaching courses in bioengineering. In my lab, we develop tiny tools to study cells and proteins responsible for childhood cancers. Our goal is to develop new treatments for such cancers.

  • School Days

I earned my bachelor's degrees in chemistry and physics from Smith College, a women's college located in western Massachusetts. I then earned my PhD from University of California, Berkeley in bioengineering.

  • Best Part

In my role as a leader of a research lab, I have the opportunity to train the next generation of bioengineers. This means I get to work closely with graduate students as they learn the skills they need to conduct research and pursue their own career goals.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

My main advice is to follow your curiosity and make the most of opportunities you find (or that find you!).

  • Hobbies

Outside of lab, I enjoy going on walks, traveling, baking, spending time with friends and family and trying new foods.

Volunteer Opportunities
  • I am willing to be contacted by educators for possible speaking engagements in schools or in after school programs or summer camps.
  • I am willing to be interviewed by interested students via email.
